2008 INDUCTEES
Dave Cushion
David Cushion was a member of the Golf Team at Eastern High School from 1964-1966. He was also Honor Society President and a member of the Student Council. David Cushion is better known for his bowling accomplishments after high school. He is a member of the Lansing Bowling Hall of Fame and has bowled 23 300 games. He was also named "Bowler of the Year" four times.
Lyle Sherman
Lyle Sherman played football, baseball and basketball at Eastern from 1932-1934. He received All City and All State Honors in football and basketball his junior and senior years. He was also Team Captain of the Class A State Basketball Champions in 1934. Lyle Sherman was inducted into The Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1981.
James A. Walker
Jim Walker played football and wrestled at Eastern High School from 1955-1957. He was captain of the wrestling team his senior year and also placed 3rd in the State Tournament. He has been a wrestling coach for 25 years, nineteen of those at Eastern. In that span he had a dual meet record of 187-33-2, 15 Conference Championships, 14 District Titles, 7 Regional Titles and in 1972 won the State Championship. He has coached 13 Individual State Champions and has been named "Regional Coach of the Year" six times. He was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Sue Wedley
Susan Wedley was the Girls Athletic Association President during her junior and senior year of high school. She then participated in field hockey and lacrosse while at Michigan State. Now a resident of Royal Oak, Susan helped create a number of popular athletic programs including Girls and Women's Softball, Basketball, and Volleyball. As Royal Oak Superintendent of Recreation, she became the first woman ever to receive the Royal Oak Jaycee's Distinguished Service Award, the organization's most coveted annual honor.
1955 State Championship Wrestling Team
For the second consecutive year, Coach Don Johnson's wrestlers won the 6A and the State Championships. In addition to an undefeated season's record, they had won thirty-seven straight dual meets, losing only two since 1950.
